  • As per section 4 (1) of the Citizenship Act of 1955, it is necessary to register the birth of every child who is born in a foreign country with the Indian Consulate within one year of the child's birth. Once the kid is registered as an Indian citizen, they can avail themselves of a passport and all other benefits that are provided to Indians.
  • Section 3 of the Citizenship Rules, 2009, says that a person may submit an application for the registration of the birth of a minor child born in a foreign country, along with a declaration that such a child does not have a passport of any country.
  • For the child who is born in a foreign country to Indian parents, Indian citizenship can be obtained by registering the child at the nearest Indian consulate/embassy. The parents need to apply for the Indian passport just after this process.

To start the process of obtaining a birth certificate, you need to visit the right authority, such as the Gram Panchayat, Municipal Corporation (MC), or Para Medical office located in the applicant's hometown.
