As the old PAN card forms were considered tricky to navigate, the Income Tax Department has launched 4 new PAN Forms- 93, 94, 95, and 96- that will replace the existing ones. These PAN Card New Forms are designed specifically for different types of individuals and entities. These forms have been in effect since April 1st 2026. Any pending PAN application before 31st March 2026 will be considered valid, meaning you are not required to submit a fresh application. But PAN applications filed after 1st April 2026 must be done using the new forms.

Difference Between the Existing PAN Forms and the New Forms

As notified under Rule 144 of the Income Tax Rules, 1962, the old PAN card application process used Forms 49A and 49AA.

  • Form 49A was used by Indian citizens, NRIs, Indian companies and unincorporated entities formed in India.

What is the Structure of the New PAN Card Forms?

All 4 forms collect important information in six major sections, namely:

1. Personal Information

  • This includes details such as name, gender, date of birth/incorporation, address, and contact details.

2. Source of Income

  • Applicants are required to provide details about the nature and source of income or any business activity.

3. Details of your Parents

  • Name of the parent and their details

4. Assessing Officer Code

5. Representative Assessee Details

  4. If you have submitted the form physically, the PAN service provider will digitise the application.

  6. Once the documents and details are verified successfully, the data is sent to the Income Tax Department.
  7. Your PAN card will now be generated.
  8. If you have applied for a physical PAN card, it will be dispatched to your registered address.
