India has launched an e-OCI Card, which is the electronic version of the physical OCI card booklets. This rule has been started from May 1, 2026. How e-OCI System Streamline OCI Renunciation and Cancellation?

As per the amended rules, the minors OCI also needs to be considered. However, the minor is not eligible to hold a passport of any other country while having an Indian passport. 

For a minor OCI cardholder, you need to make a declaration that the minor does not hold any other foreign passport along with the Indian passport. 

Biometric Data & Fast Track Immigration Programme

You need to provide consent to share the biometric information that will be captured for registration as an OCI cardholder. This will be used for registration purposes under the Fast Track Immigration Programme whenever you submit the application.

Online OCI Renunciation Process

You need to make a declaration for the renunciation of the OCI card by submitting the Form XXXI electronically on the designated portal to Indian Missions or Posts, or Foreigners Regional Registration Officers.

Surrendering Physical OCI Card

If your OCI card has been issued in physical form, the original card needs to be surrendered to the authorities, who will provide an acknowledgment. After the authority cancels the registration, the individual needs to deliver the original OCI card.

Changes in the Review Process of OCI Application

If you do not agree with the decision provided on your citizenship application, then you can apply for a revison/review. This review must be handled by the authority that is one level higher than the one specified for the disposal of the citizenship application. 

New Citizenship Rule, Review Under Section 15A
