About the Indian Passport

A Passport is an important document that allows you to travel internationally and is also considered proof of identity and citizenship. An Indian passport is issued by the Ministry of External Affairs through its Passport Seva Kendras. Indian passport ranks in the top 100 and allows you to travel to 58 countries visa-free. The Indian passport ranking 2025 is 77th as per the recent data. There are four different types of Indian Passport: Ordinary, Official, Diplomatic, and ECR Passport, each with four different colors, which are Blue, White, Maroon, and Orange, respectively. 

Eligibility Criteria for an Indian Passport

To apply for an Indian Passport, you must meet all the eligibility criteria. The eligibility for the Indian passport is as follows:

• You must be a citizen of India.
• Your age should be at least 18 to apply for an Indian Passport.
• If you are a minor under the age of 18, the passport is going to be valid for 5 years only. 
• Children between the ages of 15 and 18 are eligible to apply for a passport with 10-year validity. 

How to Apply Online?

Follow these steps to apply for an Indian Passport online:

• Visit the official website of Passport Seva Kendra and register there.
• Then click on "Apply for Passport". 
• Fill out the form with the relevant details. 
• Upload the documents and fulfill the Indian passport photo requirements (generally, the indian passport photo size is 2x2 mm).
• Click on Submit and get your Indian passport file number by paying the fee.
• After that, book an appointment at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra.
