What is AO Code?
The AO code stands for Assessing Officer Code, and it is essential for all applicants of PAN (Permanent Account Number) and TAN (Tax Dedication and Collection Account Number) to include it. You can find the AO code in the top right corner of your PAN and TAN application forms. The AO code, which is associated with a specific pin code, consists of four main components: the area code, the range code, the AO type, and the AO number. This code is provided to all PAN and TAN applicants because it plays a crucial role in income tax assessments. The primary purpose of the AO code is to determine the tax jurisdiction for individuals or entities that collect tax on behalf of the income tax department. It also helps identify which tax laws apply to that particular individual.
