An Aadhaar card is a card proviede by the Indian Government to its citizens to identify them. It has a unique 12 digit number which is assigned to you based on your biometric data. It helps you take advantage of government services, subsidies, and banks. It also helps in reducing the fraudulent activities.
As an NRI, you must get an Aadhaar card for yourself to get the facilities for transactions and other services while you are living abroad.
For NRIs, the eligibility criteria are that they should have a valid passport to get an Aadhaar card. They can reach the Aadhar enrollment centre in India to get it for themselves.
The documents that are required are:
- A valid Indian Passport
- Residential Address proof of India
- A birth certificate issued by an authorised organisation
- Visit the uidai.gov.in aadhar website and book an appointment at your nearest aadhar centre to avoid the queues.
- Carry all the required documents mentioned on the website while visiting the Aadhaar enrollment centre.
- Fill out the enrollment form provided by the operator, and after carefully reading it, sign the declaration.
- Tell your operator to enroll you as a Non-Resident of India.
- Complete all the processes, including biometric fingerprint, iris, and facial scan.
- Confirm all the details displayed on the screen by the operator, and then instruct them to submit the information.
- Collect the enrollment slip from there so that you can check the Aadhaar update status online.
Note: After your Aadhaar card is ready, it will be delivered to you at your residential address. You can also download it online from the UIDAI website by clicking on the "download aadhaar" option. You can also apply for an Aadhaar card if you are an Overseas Citizen of India and have an OCI Card.
