A passport is an essential document and anyone can misuse it. So if your passport is lost or stolen abroad or anywhere then the first step you have to take is to go to the nearest police station and file an FIR. After that you need to contact the Indian Mission, gather all the necessary documents, and re-apply for a new Indian passport.

Once when I was on a US tour, someone lost or stole my passport. That was a hectic situation for me. I immediately went to the nearest police station to lodge an FIR and connect with the Indian Mission for better assistance.
