No, citizens of the US do not need a visa to enter the United Kingdom for up to six months if they are visiting for tourism, visiting family and friends, etc. However, From the 8th of January 2025, US citizens will need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to enter the United Kingdom for several reasons like tourism, family visits, attending conferences, and short-term study for 6 months or less.
