No, American citizens do not require a visa to visit the United Kingdom for a period of up to six months. However, from 8th January 2025, every US citizen who is traveling to the UK will need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization). Applications for an ETA will open from 27th November 2024 and it will cost around 10 pounds which is about USD 13. An ETA approval will be granted within 72 hours.
